Henry Lee

Henry Lee is the founder of HCL Partners LP and has been the sole portfolio manager since inception in May 1998.

He is a graduate of Hobart College, where he obtained a BA in English and played varsity squash. He began his career as a clerk on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, at times clerking for his father, who was a member of the exchange. Upon graduation in 1983, Henry began work at C.J. Lawrence and Sons, an institutional broker-dealer and research boutique. He subsequently became the proprietary trader at a small broker dealer, and then went on to become a member of the New York Options Exchange and the American Stock Exchange as an options market maker.

As a market maker, he became acutely aware of market inefficiencies and the value of financial and statistical modeling. He eventually left the American Stock Exchange to research and exploit those inefficiencies. HCL Partners has been the evolution and extension of that effort. Today, Henry maintains a significant portion of his liquid net worth in the fund along with other family and friends.
