The new hoverbikes were shown off at the Gulf Information Technology Exposition last week. They look like something straight out of Star Wars and will allow Dubai officers to reach destinations quicker.

The hoverbikes that will be used by the Dubai police force are based on the Scorpion-3 made by Russian company Hoversurf. The city hopes that these vehicles will allow officers to be the first ones on the scene when something happens in a hard-to-reach area. It will also let officers act as scouting drones for comrades on the ground.

While the hoverbikes are definitely a wonder to look at, they won’t be chasing down anyone racing through the streets of the city. The hoeverbikes are only able to reach a speed of 43 miles per hour. However, they can reach altitudes of 16 feet and can last 25 minutes on a single charge, reports Autoblog.

Dubai’s interest in the hoverbikes for its police force doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The city has a history of adopting strange technologies while they are still in the early stages of production. Earlier this year, the city announced that it will have firefighters that will use waterjet backpacks to fight fires.
