DuPont & US Steel Report Disappointing Earnings
EI DuPont de Nemours & Co. (NYSE: DD) posted third quarter EPS of $0.40 on revenue of $7.07 billion, compared with analysts' expectations of EPS of $0.34 and revenue of $6.67 billion. But earnings were down from the same period a year ago, when EPS totaled $0.45. Combined with a drop in operating margin, DuPont's shares have fallen about -2% in early trading.
BP Sells More Assets, Vows to Stay in US
BP sold four oilfields in the Gulf for $650 million to help fund a $20 billion escrow fund to pay for damages caused by the explosion of its well and oil spill in the Gulf last April.
Verizon Earnings and Revenue Fall
Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) managed to hold onto its leading position in the wireless phone business, but the company's profits for the third quarter fell -25% compared with the same period a year ago. Revenues also fell 2.9% year-over-year.
Xerox (XRX) Profit Jumps In Third Quarter
Xerox reported third-quarter earnings of 22 cents a share, excluding items, on revenue of $5.43 billion.
