Nvidia is best known these days for its role in the artificial intelligence (AI) boom, courtesy of its graphics processing units (GPUs). These chips, which help render computer visuals, initially made Nvidia popular with video game fans in 1999. However, GPUs are the computer chips best capable of processing large quantities of data and completing behind-the-scenes computations. In recent years, this made Nvidia first a key player in crypto mining and now in generative artificial intelligence. CEO Jensen Huang has teased that there’s much more to come with AI, including Nvidia’s new Blackwell chip at the end of 2024.
