Palantir is a somewhat secretive company, co-founded by CEO Alex Karp in 2004 and backed by infamous investor Peter Thiel. Its products include Foundry and Gotham, both of which are designed to ingest large quantities of customer data and then help those customers make real-time decisions. Prior to the advent of generative AI, Palantir attracted a defense-oriented clientele, with users including police departments, prisons and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Thanks to AI, though, Palantir’s business has been booming. The company has marketed its tools as “operating systems” for government, private and non-profit customers, and has signed major deals such as with the U.S. Army.
