Here are your Apple rumors and AAPL news items for today:

aapl-apple-rumors-apple-logic-board-sapphireThailand: The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) in Thailand has approved the sale two unreleased iPhones, reports 9to5Mac. The iPhones that have been approved for sale have model numbers A1524 and A1586. It hasn’t been confirmed it the models approved for sale are iPhone 6s, but Apple (AAPL) South Asia has reportedly met with the NBTC over the matter.

Sapphire: According to sources close to the matter, Apple may be preparing to release high-end versions of the upcoming iPhone 6 that will have Sapphire glass screens, The Wall Street Journal notes. Analysts estimate that a Sapphire screen costs $16 to create. This is a huge jump from the $3 cost it makes to produce the Gorilla Glass screen used in current-generation iPhones. The tech giant may be willing to take the hit from the increased cost of using Sapphire screens as it could save them money in warranty costs, but it’s also likely that iPhones equipped with these screens will cost more.

Board: An image that could possibly be a completed logic board for the iPhone 6 was spotted on the internet today, AppleInsider notes. The image shows off several chips and connectors on the logic boards. However, metal shielding on the board doesn’t allow any look at the possible silicone on the board. The possibly completed logic board appears similar to printed circuit boards that were seen previously. These circuit boards were rumored to be for the 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6. The board appears larger than the one used in the current generation of iPhones.
