Facebook (FB) has announced that it will be giving users new Facebook news when they’ve been the target of a state-sponsored attack.

facebook-news-state-sponsored-attacks-fbThe Facebook news concerning alerts for state-sponsored attacks was announced by Facebook Chief Security Officer Alex Stamos in a post on the website. Stamos states that users that are targeted by one of these attacks will receive a special notification when they get on the platform warning them about it.

The Facebook news will suggest that users that have been targeted by a state-sponsored attack should turn on Login Approvals in their Settings. This feature makes it so that the social media company will alert users when their account is accessed from a new device or web browser.

“To protect the integrity of our methods and processes, we often won’t be able to explain how we attribute certain attacks to suspected attackers,” Stamos said in his Facebook news post. “That said, we plan to use this warning only in situations where the evidence strongly supports our conclusion.”
