Where AT&T Will Be Testing 5G Wireless

AT&T (NYSE:T) is testing a 5G wireless Internet service.

AT&TThe carrier has been working on 5G technologies for years and now it’s almost ready to release an Internet service with its capabilities, slated to be rolled out late in 2016.

AT&T is teaming up with Ericsson and Intel to ramp up its development in the lab in the second quarter of the year. The first outdoor tests of the service will be launched this summer.

Residents of Austin, Texas will be the first to test out AT&T’s 5G wireless Internet service. The company’s Chief Strategy Officer John Donovan notes, those technologies “will be immersive, pervasive and responsive to customers. 5G will help make them a reality.”

5G internet could be anywhere from 10 to 100 times faster than LTE, with users observing downloads going gigabits per second. You could potentially download a TV show in less than three seconds.
