The Pokemon Go update added the new “Sightings” feature. This feature is currently still in testing and isn’t available to all users. It replaces the nearby Pokemon feature that had to be removed in a previous update due to a glitch.

A Reddit forum has already been created to update users on the new feature. It looks like the test of the tracking feature is currently limited to those living in San Francisco that have updated their smartphones.

The new setup has a “Nearby” and a Sightings section for trainers to look at. From what testers have figured out, It appears that the Nearby feature shows Pokemon that are right next to the player and the Sightings one shows Pokemon within a a 500 meter range.

The Pokemon Go trainer that has been breaking down the new tracker feature claims that it works best when around Pokestops for Nearby ones. However, they also noted that players can also still find Pokemon in the Sightings tab while away from Pokestops. It’s just more uncommon.

Initial testing of the new feature shows that a variety of different Pokemon can show up in the nearby section when near a Pokestop. The Reddit users also noted that Pokemon don’t show up as frequently as with a Lure, which still makes the item handy for catching extra Pokemon. It also appears that lured Pokemon don’t show up in the tracker.
