As we enter into July, iPhone 6 rumors are coming fast and furious. Primarily, that’s because one of the big iPhone 6 rumors is the release date of Apple’s (AAPL) highly anticipated flagship smartphone, and all signs are pointing to September.

With just two months to go until the official unveil is expected, leaks from manufacturing partners, dummy models used to design protective cases and smuggled components are driving the iPhone 6 rumors, while pictures based on those bits and pieces paint a device that’s beginning to look like a radical departure — and a likely home run — for Apple.

If even half of the iPhone 6 rumors turn out to be true, rival Samsung (SSNLF) is going to have its work cut out if it expects the next Galaxy smartphone to be competitive.

iPhone 6 Rumors: Size

While no iPhone 6 rumors will be confirmed until Apple actually unveils the device, it’s virtually certain that the device will be larger than the 4-inch iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. It’s tough to find a flagship smartphone today that doesn’t have a display that’s 5-inches or greater, and Apple can’t afford to ignore this trend any longer. One of the big iPhone 6 rumors of 2014 is that there will be two iPhone 6 versions released: one at 4.7-inches and one at 5.5 inches.

The larger model is expected to command a $100 premium over the usual $199 on contract.

This is one of those iPhone 6 rumors Gizmodo readers are very familiar with, thanks to recent posts including this one by Robert Sorokanich from June 21 that shows a photograph of what’s said to be a 5.5-inch LCD display from Apple’s new smartphone.

Whether we get a pair of iPhone 6s or just one, it’s practically a guarantee that Apple will release a phablet this fall.

iPhone 6 Rumors: Camera

Apple has stuck to a lower megapixel image sensor while competitors have constantly boosted theirs. For example, the Sony (SNE) Xperia Z2 has a 20.2 MP image sensor, compared to just 8MP on tap for the iPhone 5s.

The latest iPhone 6 rumors have a camera at 10MP, with the possibility that the phablet model will also offer optical image stabilization for even sharper photos.

iPhone 6 Rumors: Specs

When it comes to iPhone 6 rumors, the ones surrounding the phone’s specs are among the most intently studied. They’re also the ones most likely to change as new hints emerge from Apple’s supply chain.

While most other smartphone manufacturers go with Snapdragon CPUs from Qualcomm (QCOM), it’s not exactly going out on a limb to say Apple will stick with its own processor and instead of the A7, we’ll see the A8 this time around.

What about display resolution? Well …

Physical size is one thing, but Apple is frequently criticized for its Retina display resolution, which now seems low-rent compared to the competition. According to iPhone 6 rumors like this one posted to YouTube, the resolution may be tripled this time around.

Dimensions and shape are also frequent subjects of speculation. Aloysius Low writes in this post on iPhone 6 rumors for CNET that the new Apple smartphone will feature a flat display, with rounded edges. Other iPhone 6 rumors sites have the device getting even thinner than the iPhone 5s, despite the bigger display.

Finally, there’s a good chance that at least one version of the iPhone 6 will be protected by sapphire glass, the super-strong alternative to Corning (GLW) Gorilla Glass.

iPhone 6 Rumors: Release Date

The million dollar question is: “When can I actually buy Apple’s new phablet smartphone?”

There was significant uncertainty even a few months ago, based on speculation like this iPhone 6 rumors video that suggested production delays in the larger model might push release dates for at least one iPhone 6 version into the late fall.

However, there’s now a reasonably high degree of confidence among iPhone 6 rumors trackers that the release date will be early in September, in keeping with Apple’s iPhone release pattern.
