More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stayed level, the Nasdaq pushed 0.2% higher and the S&P 500 remained flat.
Some of the biggest gainers among basic materials stocks include:
- Compania Mina Buenaventura S.A. (BVN): BVN stock is up 4.7%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has increased.
- Pan American Silver (PAAS): PAAS stock is up 3.6% today.
- Hecla Mining Company (HL): HL stock is up 3.5% today.
- Barrick Gold Corp (ABX): ABX stock is up 3.3%, marking the fourth consecutive day the stock has increased.
- AK Steel Holding Corp (AKS): AKS stock is up 3.2% today.
- Newmont Mining Corp (NEM): NEM stock is up 2.5%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has increased.
- Actuant Corp (ATU): ATU stock is up 2.3% today.
- Yamana Gold (AUY): AUY stock is up 2.3%, marking the fourth consecutive day the stock has increased.
- Allegheny Technologies Inc (ATI): ATI stock is up 2.3% today.
- United States Steel Corp (X): X stock is up 2.1% today.

- Vale S.A. (VALE): VALE stock is down 3.4% today.
- Plum Creek Timber Company (PCL): PCL stock is down 2.1% today.
- Teck Resources Ltd (TCK): TCK stock is down 1.9% today.
- Murphy USA Inc. Common Stock Wh (MUSA): MUSA stock is down 1.9% today.
- Hudbay Minerals Inc (HBM): HBM stock is down 1.8% today.
- Globe Specialty Metals Inc (GSM): GSM stock is down 1.3% today.
- Agrium Inc (AGU): AGU stock is down 1.1% today.
- Chemtura Corp (CHMT): CHMT stock is down 1.0% today.
- Aluminum Corporation of China Ltd (ACH): ACH stock is down 0.9%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.
- Arcelormittal (MT): MT stock is down 0.6% today.
