The announcement for reaching 1.3 billion monthly users actually comes directly from the Facebook Messenger profile on the social media website. The announcement notes that many new features have been added to the service over the last few months to help it gain popularity.

“We are very grateful to each and every one of you in the Messenger community for Messenger to reach the people and businesses you care most about,” the company said via its Facebook Messenger profile. “Thank you – and as always, please let us know how we can make Messenger even better for you.”

Facebook Messenger reaching 1.3 billion monthly active users now has it catching up to one of the company’s other services. WhatsApp announced two months ago that it had 1.3 billion monthly active users.

The climb in monthly active users has been strong since last year. In July 2016 Facebook Messenger hit 1 billion monthly users. The company updated its user numbers in April 2017 to announce that it had reached 1.2 billion monthly active users.

The growth in Facebook Messenger users is good news for the company’s revenue. Earlier this year, the social media company announced that it was adding advertisements to Messenger. Stan Chudnovsky, Head of Product at Messenger, said that the ads won’t be overly intrusive and that revenue won’t be the focus.

FB stock was up slightly as of Friday morning.

As of this writing, William White did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
