Walmart to Let Customers Use Food Stamps When Ordering Online

Walmart is currently testing out a system that allows customers to pay with foods stamps when ordering online. This tests is taking place at five locations. Four of those are stores in Boise, Idaho and the other location is in Houston, Texas.

The system allows customers using EBT to take advantage of Walmart’s Online Grocery Pickup service. This service has a WMT employee shopping the store for the person and they simply come in to pay for, and pick up, the order.

“Everyone deserves this kind of satisfaction. Convenience shouldn’t be dictated by the way you pay,” Mike Turner, Vice President of Ecommerce Operations at Walmart, said in a statement. “Your to-do list continues to grow, so ours does too. We’re committed to bringing you options that let you take charge of your time.”

Walmart also notes that it wants to allow customers to pay with food stamps for online orders in other areas as well. The retailer says that it will continue to add the payment option to more stores throughout the holidays and further into the future.

Walmart has been testing several different ways to save customers time. This includes a new grocery delivery option in testing that works with Uber. It has also been letting employees drop off orders on their way home from work. These methods of delivery are still in testing and are only available at select stores.

As of this writing, William White did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
