Dyson will be launching cars in the near future, the company announced.

No prototype has been built so far but the company believes it’ll roll out electric cars in 2020. So far, Dyson has focused its efforts on creating electric home appliances, including hair dryers and vacuum cleaners.

The company said it plans on spending £2 billion ($2.69 billion) on developing a “radical” electric car. The UK-based company has hired 400 staff to develop the project over the last two years in its headquarters at Malmesbury, Wiltshire.

No car has been completed so far, no prototype is in place and a factory site for the Dyson car has yet to be chosen. No more details regarding the design or features of the car were revealed by Sir James Dyson, head of the company who revealed the information about the company’s new project.

“Competition for new technology in the automotive industry is fierce and we must do everything we can to keep the specifics of our vehicle confidential,” he told staff in an email.

A number of pieces of information have either not been decided yet or have been kept secret, including the expected annual production, the vehicle’s cost, its range or its top speed.

The Dyson electric cars will offer competition to the likes of Tesla and Nissan, plus other companies that have been at the forefront of the electric car revolution.
