Walmart App Promises Quicker, Easier In-Store Returns

Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE:WMT) is making its easier to return items with a new feature for the Walmart app.

Walmart App Promises Quicker, Easier In-Store Returns

The new feature coming to the Walmart app is Mobile Express Returns. It will allow customers to return items to any WMT stores without having to wait in the returns line. This goal is to speed up returns and make them easier on customers.

Returning an item via the Walmart app just requires the person to select the transaction and items that they want to return. Once they’ve done this, the items can be taken to the store for the return. There will be a QR code on the card reader in the express return lane. The person making the return just has this scan this and then hand the item to the employees working there.

Walmart notes that customers will see the refund for the return show up as soon as the next day. The major benefit here is customers returning online orders won’t have to wait days before they get their refund.

Walmart also says that it plans to start adding instant refunds to its mobile app starting in December. These refunds will occur before the item is ever returned to the store. The process will only work with a few household items at first, but the retailer will add more over time.

Walmart will be introducing Mobile Express Returns for online orders starting in November. It plans to expand the feature to include returns for purchases made in-store next year. The retailer is also preparing a similar service for purchases made through its online marketplace.

As of this writing, William White did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
