Penn West Energy Trust Breaking Out

Penn West Energy Trust (PWE) — This open-end Canadian investment trust acquires, develops, exploits, and holds interests in petroleum and natural gas properties principally located in the western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.

PWE has been base building since March when it hit a low below $7. But the recent breakout in crude oil has had a positive impact on the Canadian trusts.

PWE broke out from a spread triple-top on Thursday with a run up to the 200-day moving average Monday. It could hesitate here before moving higher, but the chances favor another run to more than $18, and with a dividend yield of over 12% the total return could be very attractive.
