Why Some Catholics Are Calling for a Beer Boycott

Some Catholics are calling for a boycott of Guinness, Heineken and Boston Beer’s (SAM) Sam Adams products.

Catholics-Beer-Boycott-SAM-StockThe call for Catholics to boycott these beers comes after those companies pulled out of the St. Patrick’s Day parades in New York City and Boston. Guinness, Heineken and Sam Adams pulled out of the parade because members of the LGBT community weren’t allowed to march in it. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and the City Council also didn’t take part in the parades because of the LGBT ban, reports AM New York.

The boycott has the support of Catholic League president Bill Donohue, who claims that the parade has suffered from LGBT bullying. Donohue also stated that members of the LGBT community were allowed to march in the parade, but that they couldn’t do so under their own banner, AM New York notes.

“The parade has one cause: honoring St. Patrick.” Donohue said in a statement. “Those who disagree do not have to march—that’s what diversity is all about.”
