The new webpage is a partnership between FB and News Corp.’s (NWSA) social news agency Storyful. Real-time content posted on FB Newswire will be managed by Storyful to ensure the verification and distribution of  “timely and relevant video and user-generated content.”

In a statement, FB Director of News and Global Media Partnerships, Andy Mitchell, said that the partnership between Facebook and Storyful would “help make it even easier for journalists to use compelling social content from Facebook in their newsgathering and reporting.”

FB Newswire will feature “original photos, videos, and status updates posted by people on the front lines of major events including protests, elections, and sporting events.”

The new platform can be accessed at http://www.facebook.com/FBNewswire. FB Newswire will also be found on Facebook rival Twitter (TWTR) at @FBNewswire.

Facebook stock rose more than 1% in Thursday mid-day trading, while TWTR shares fell almost 2%.
