Google (GOOG) is targeting a new demographic of potential Google Glass users by selling the gadget at a golf tournament.

Google Glass was for sale last weekend at the Player’s Championship golf tournament in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The tech giant is looking to appeal to golf aficionados with the highly-anticipated smartglasses that are set to be released sometime this year.

“We’ve since built our inventory back up and plan to continue to accelerate new ways to expand the program in the weeks and months ahead,” the Google Glass team wrote said on Google+.

“Our hope is to bring Glass to new Explorers, like optometrists, sports lovers, online retailers, cooks and travelers, who (like you!) can get in early and help make Glass better as part of our open beta, ahead of a wider consumer launch.”

There is no indication as to how many pairs of Google Glass were sold at the tournament. Google also sold the smartglasses during a one-day sale on April 15 for $1,500.

GOOG stock is up about 1.8% Monday.
