Wendy’s (WEN) is bringing the pretzel bun back to its menu.
The burger chain is bringing two of its most popular 2013 products: the Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger and the Pretzel Pub Chicken Sandwich. Wendy’s has yet to confirm whether or not its pretzel bun offerings are back for good but if last year is any indication, these delicious sandwiches may be around for a while.
The chain sold over 50 million pretzel sandwiches in 2013, increasing sales by 3% in both the third and fourth quarters. There’s reason to believe that more Americans are looking for premium offerings in restaurants. these days as 225 million Americans said they bought gourmet or specialty food items last year and that number is growing.
The Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger is a 680-calorie burger with sweet & smoky honey mustard, melted cheddar cheese and apple wood smoked bacon on a warm soft pretzel bun. The Pretzel Pub Chicken Sandwich has 650 calories and it consists of a lightly breaded chicken breastwith natural muenster cheese, honey mustard and a warm cheddar sauce on a pretzel bun.
WEN stock is up over 2% Wednesday afternoon.
