The deal between Google and Novartis shows that the former isn’t looking to let its revolutionary technology go to waste. Google CEO Larry Page said that he doesn’t want the company to become like Nikola Tesla in the sense that it makes revolutionary technology that doesn’t make a profit, The Wall Street Journal notes.

“This really brings high-technology and combines it with biology – and that’s a very exciting combination for us,” Joe Jimenez, CEO of Novartis, told Reuters.

Here are a few things to know about Google’s smart contact lenses, as listed by WSJ.

  • The contact lenses contain tiny sensors and an antenna that is smaller than a human hair.
  • They can be used to monitor glucose levels by getting readings from tears.
  • The lenses could also possibly be used to correct vision, similar to an auto focus on a camera.
  • The wearable devices will likely work with Google Fit.
  • The technology in the contact lenses is so small that it looks like bits of glitter.
