This weekend is the opening of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the sequel to the 2005 adaptation of Frank Miller’s graphic novel series.

2005’s Sin City was a dark, violent neo-noir that followed a few different characters through the slimy corruption of Basin “Sin” City. A Dame to Kill For brings back many of the original cast members like Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson, while adding new names like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Eva Green.

And if you’re looking for more crime movies to watch, don’t worry — your old buddy Netflix has you covered.

The crime movies on Netflix seem to follow a loose definition (i.e. a crime happens at some point in the film), which means you’ve got plenty of different crime films to watch, regardless of what kind of mood you’re in.

Crime Movies on Netflix: The Thomas Crown Affair

The Thomas Crown Affair is a remake of the 1968 heist film and stars Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo.

Billionaire Thomas Crown has the money to buy any piece of art he wants, but why go through the boring process of buying it when you can have the thrill of stealing it? That lifestyle is all well and good, until an insurance company investigator catches his trail.

If you have the patience for more methodical films, it’s one of the best crime movies on Netflix.

The movie follows a much slower pace than many of today’s “all action all the time” flicks, but it’s also more carefully constructed. That’s not to say it’s free of plot holes (no movie is), but it’s built on subtle turns that slowly drive the film toward its conclusion. But once the final act hits, it’s an exhilarating sprint to the finish.

Good for: People who like slow-burn movies, and Pierce Brosnan fans.

Crime Movies on Netflix: In Bruges

If you’re looking for a crime movie that’s more than just guns, drugs and double-crosses, In Bruges is one of the best crime movies on Netflix. It’s also great for anyone lamenting the general lack of crime-based Christmas movies.

In Bruges stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two hitmen — “Tourist hitmen at Christmas,” if you wanted a four-word description — who are sent to Bruges to hide out after a job goes wrong. The film strikes a unique tone that’s difficult to describe, but it makes the movie all the more compelling.

Good for: Anyone who likes some comedy with their crime, and who likes their comedy very, very dark.

Crime Movies on Netflix: Turner and Hooch

Heist movies too dull? Dark comedies too bleak? How about a no-nonsense cop getting paired up with a slobbering dog?

Turner and Hooch stars Tom Hanks as a buttoned-down detective who adopts a French Mastiff to help him solve the murder of the dog’s owner.

If you’ve ever watched a comedy about a reluctant pet owner, you probably know what you’re getting into here. But it is a comedy, after all, so you’re probably not watching it for the unraveling of the plot. Tom Hanks is classic Tom Hanks, and the big dog is … well, a big, slobbering dog.

Good for: People who like movies with dogs, and people who like Tom Hanks.

Crime Movies on Netflix: Pulp Fiction

If you’re looking for a great movie that just happens to be about crime, you can’t do better than Pulp Fiction. It’s one of the best movies on Netflix, period, and it has one of the most memorable crime movie plots of the past few decades.

Pulp Fiction is the movie that catapulted Quentin Tarantino into super-stardom, with its spiraling, asynchronous narrative, unique tone and unmistakable cool. The film jumps around to follow the narratives of different criminals, showing how they intersect and careen into each other. The movie is fast-paced and endlessly quotable, making for one of the all-time best crime movies on Netflix.

Good for: People who like their movies with extra wit, violence and pop culture references.
