BlackBerry (BBRY) Discusses Movirtu Buyout

While it has hemorrhaged smartphone market share for years, BlackBerry (BBRY) isn’t just sitting back and giving up. Instead, it’s still making big moves to try to stay relevant within the industry.

BlackBerry (BBRY) Discusses Big MoveMost recently, BBRY acquired telecom services provider Movirtu, and BlackBerry Enterprise President John Sims came forth in a recent interview to discuss why.

When asked why BlackBerry chose Movirtu, Sims made it clear that this was the right move:

“We looked at a number of split billing approaches to ensure we would select a solution that meets the requirements of all stakeholders. Based on our market research, we quickly realized that Movirtu was the only viable solution available.”

So this isn’t a rash, reactionary decision, at least if you believe Sims.

At this point, we all know that BlackBerry continues to push products and services that have an “enterprise twist.” CEO John Chen knows the company still has an advantage in the enterprise space, which leads to acquisitions such as this one.

Sims went on to add that Movirtu’s technology is reliable and stable regardless of when or where somebody is doing business. That is what enterprise customers want to hear.

Summing it up, Sims said:

“Movirtu technology offers the simplest, most reliable, and most accurate split billing solution for businesses and it’s now a BlackBerry service.”

Easy enough, right? It will be interesting to see how BBRY implements Movirtu technology in the near future.

Even more so, it will be interesting to see how customers respond.

As of this writing, Chris Bibey did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
