Google (GOOG) is adding free voice calls to Google Hangouts.
The chat service already had an SMS feature in the app and now you can also make low-cost phone calls.
Mobile users can use Google Hangouts to make free calls in the US and Canada, where rates are considerably lower than other international markets.
Google Hangouts is essentially integrating Google Voice with the app and linking your Voice number with Hangouts. The updated app will also allow you to send and receive voicemail.
The new version of the Google Hangouts will allow devices running on Android to make calls. Desktop and iPhone users will also be able to use the app to make calls once the applications for those devices are updated.
GOOG stock is up about 0.3% Wednesday afternoon.
