The Apple (AAPL) iPhone 6 and iOS 8 launch didn’t go exactly as planned, but this has not changed the fact that the devices continue to sell at a rapid pace. On top of this, iPhone 6 usage rates continue to increase in North America.

According to the latest update from Chitika Insights, iPhone 6 users are generating 2.3% of all iPhone based web traffic in North America. This is a 0.8% increase when compared to where things stood the first weekend after its release.

AppleiPhone 6 Plus web traffic has picked up 0.1 percentage points to 0.3% since the first weekend.

Despite the growth, the iPhone 6 is still trailing iPhone 5 use at the same point in time in 2012. There are many possible reasons for this, including difficulties meeting demand for both new devices.

Apple iPad in Trouble?

Apple and Samsung continue to lead the branded tablet market, with both companies performing well during the first half of 2014. However, not everything is peaches and cream, with ABI Research noting that iPad units decreased 13% during this period, with Samsung picking up 26% year on year.

ABI senior practice director Jeff Orr added the following:

“The roller coaster ride from the leading two tablet vendors has market watchers looking to other vendors to create sustainable growth. All eyes are on Lenovo as it is one of few to demonstrate consistent growth over the past year.”

Not only is Apple contending with its No. 1 competitor, Samsung, but Cupertino is now faced with growing competition from the likes of Lenovo.

Apple investors continue to make out this year, despite the fact that the iPad may be underperforming. With the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus gaining ground and Apple Pay coming down the pipeline, underwhelming results in the tablet market may be swept under the rug for the time being.

As of this writing, Chris Bibey did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
