Merchant Customer Exchange’s CurrentC has confirmed that it has suffered a data breach.

CurrentCThe Apple Pay (AAPL) rival app was hacked by “unauthorized third parties” who collected a number of e-mail addresses used for the CurrentC pilot program.

MCX said that most of the email addresses acquired by hackers were “dummy accounts” and CurrentC was not affected by the breach.

Spokeswoman Linda Walsh said the company takes its users’ information very seriously. “MCX is continuing to investigate the situation and will provide updates as necessary,” she said.

CurrentC users can’t use Apple Pay or Google Wallet because they have to commit to using MCX’s app exclusively.
