Marijuana News: Morocco May Legalize Growing Pot

Morocco is one of the world’s top hash providers and the country is now considering legalizing marijuana.

MoroccoThe African nation has about 80,000 families that grow marijuana for a living, according to UN estimates. These farmers are constantly faced with harassment and even blackmail from local police but a new law could change this monitoring.

A proposed law is attempting to legalize marijuana for industrial and medical uses in Morocco. However, the country could face some difficulties passing the law due to the anti-drug tenets of Islam.

Such a law could also hurt farmers instead of helping them because of how much control politicians would have over the pot market. Moroccan farmers only make $3,000 to $4,000 a year and they could make even less selling the product legally.

The law is scheduled for a debate in parliament on October 10.
