According to Slate Magazine, Apple has pulled the plug on apps that carry the WireLurker malware. The tech company said that it has made it so that apps that have been identified to be carrying the malware won’t be able to launch. It also warned users to only download apps from  trusted sources.

The WireLurker malware was found to be hiding in 467 apps for OS X. These apps were downloaded more than 356,000 times in the last six months. The malware moves to iOS devices when they are connected to an OS X device via USB, Slate Magazine notes.

Many of the apps that contained the WireLurker malware were pirated versions of normal apps, such as Angry Birds and Sims 3.

“Apple is not impervious and any platform can be attacked,” Lawrence Pingree, a security and privacy analyst for Gartner, told Bloomberg. “The attackers are targeting where the money is. They are driven by account information for performing fraud as more people start to do payments on their mobile devices.”
