Those interested in nabbing a pair of Powerlace shoes can order a pair from the project’s Kickstarter page. The shoes cost $175 CAD, which comes to about $155 in America, but will only be sent out so long as the Kickstarter is fully funded.

The Powerlace Kickstarter has until Jan. 14, 2015 to reach its goal of $650,000 CAD, or about $575,000. As of Tuesday afternoon, the project had reached $22,228 CAD, roughly $19,600.

According to the Powerlace Kickstarter page, the self-tying shoes have a hidden switch in the heel that is pressed when a person puts their foot in them. This switch activates the self-tying system, which uses a lace lock set by the wearer to determine how tight the shoes should be. The lace lock only has to be set once and the shoes will remember how tight to make the laces after that.
