More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.6%, the Nasdaq fell 0.3% and the S&P 500 was down 0.6%.

• Gold Fields Ltd (GFI): GFI stock is up 3.3% today.

• Barrick Gold Corp (ABX): ABX stock is up 2.7% today.

• Compania Mina Buenaventura S.A. (BVN): BVN stock is up 1.2% today.

• Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc (POT): POT stock is up 1.7% today.

• Randgold Resources Limited (GOLD): GOLD stock is up 1.5% today.

• Yamana Gold (AUY): AUY stock is up 2.1% today and up 20.6% in the last month.

• National Steel Corp (SID): SID stock is up 1.0% today.

• Iamgold Corp (IAG): IAG stock is up 1.5% today and up 20.4% in the last month.

• Sinopec Shangai Petrochemical Company Ltd (SHI): SHI stock is up 1.5% today.

Some of the biggest losers among basic materials stocks include:

• United States Steel Corp (X): X stock is down 3.8% today.

• Cliffs Natural Resources Inc (CLF): CLF stock is down 4.0% today and down 29.8% in the last month.

• Lyondellbasell Industries Nv (LYB): LYB stock is down 2.8% today.

• Mrc Global Inc (MRC): MRC stock is down 3.2% today and down 25.6% in the last month.

• Dover Corp (DOV): DOV stock is down 2.6% today.

• Albemarle Corp (ALB): ALB stock is down 2.2% today.

• DOW Chemical Company (DOW): DOW stock is down 2.1% today.

• Arcelormittal (MT): MT stock is down 2.4% today.

• Steel Dynamics (STLD): STLD stock is down 2.0% today.

• Teck Resources Ltd (TCK): TCK stock is down 2.0% today.
