Google announced on Thursday that Google Fiber had been delayed in several metro areas that were being considered for the high-speed internet. The company announced earlier this year that it would announce its plans for these areas in December. Now it says that it’ll update the status of the projects early next year, reports GeekWire.

According to the Google Fiber website, the service is already available in select areas of Austin, Texas; Provo, Utah and areas in and around Kansas City. The website also includes nine metro areas as being potentials for the service in the future.

While Google Fiber has been delayed from several cities, other internet providers are trying to fill the gap with their own high-speed and gigabit internet offers, GeekWire notes.
