According to The New York Times, Facebook blocked several pages in the country due to orders from a Turkish court. The social media company blocked 1,900 pieces of online content in the country during the first half of 2014. It also provided information on several users when the government asked for it.

Facebook isn’t the only website that has ran into issues with the Turkish government. Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) and YouTube have both been blocked in the country in the past due to their content. In comparison to these two websites, Facebook complies with the Turkish government more often, reports NYT.

The move to ban certain pages offensive to Islam in Turkey comes two weeks after CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a statement about free speech. His statement was concerning the Charlie Hebdo attack. Charlie Hebdo is a magazine that was attacked after featuring offensive images of Muhammad, reports Washington Post.
