The new cities that will be getting Google Fiber are Atlanta,Ga., Charlotte, N.C., Raleigh-Durham, N.C. and Nashville, Tenn. The company will announce the Atlanta and Nashville expansions on Tuesday, the Raleigh and Charlotte expansions on Wednesday and the Durham expansion on Thursday, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Google Fiber takes about a year to get set up once it has been announced. It offers gigabit internet to customers for a monthly fee and builds its networks in neighborhoods with demand. A free version of the service is also available to those willing to pay a one-time fee, but the internet is slower, WSJ notes.

“We believe Google Fiber serves dual aims: a) to push current infrastructure providers to upgrade their networks; and b) to raise consumer standards for Internet speeds broadly,” Eric Sheridan, an analyst for UBS, told USA Today.
