To give a user control over your Facebook after you die, go to Settings, then Security and click on Legacy Contact. From here, you can type in a friend’s name to add them as a Legacy Contact.

Facebook users that are Legacy Contacts have the ability to do certain things with the account they’ve been given control of. This includes adding a pinned post to the top of the account, accepting friend request and changing profile and cover pictures.

What Legacy Contacts can’t do with a deceased friend’s account is remove friends, sign into the account, look through messages or remove or change old post and pictures.

Legacy Contacts are only available for users that have agreed to have their accounts memorialized after they die. The other option is having Facebook permanently delete your account.
