Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is putting an end to its Internet Explorer brand after roughly 20 years.
With the death of Internet Explorer, Microsoft is already planning a replacement. The new web browser is being referred to as Project Spartan. This new browser is being made with a focus on mobile users, but can still run on computers, reports USA Today.
Project Spartan will be replacing Internet Explorer starting on Windows 10. It’s made from scratch and a different software platform from its predecessor. This means that it won’t be compatible with older systems. In turn, that means that IE will be sticking around a little longer and that it will be included in Windows 10, but not as the main web browser, Fox News notes.
“In a way, the introduction of Explorer marked the beginning of the downfall of Windows and Microsoft,” Paul Saffo, a Silicon Valley futurist, told USA Today. It was not an attempt to innovate. It was an attempt to stay relevant”
