Several customers that bought he Apple Watch and also have tattoos can’t get the device to work for them. This is because black or red ink in tattoos can keep the device’s infrared sensors from picking up their heartbeat, which is how the device confirms its on a person’s wrist, reports CNNMoney.

Tattooed owners of the Apple Watch have found that they can use it if they turn off its wrist detection feature. However, this also means that those users don’t have access to several of its features, such as Apple Pay. The Watch has no problem working with users that have darker skin tones due to skin being translucent, CNNMoney notes.

One Reddit thread dedicated to the unique Apple Watch problem has over 700 upvotes and 300 comments. Some users have said they can get the Watch working, but that it frequently asks them for their passcode or doesn’t accurately display their heart rate. There is a 14-day return policy on the device, reports MacRumors.
