Many post office hours are extended on April 15 to make sure everyone has time to file their taxes. However, some areas don’t stay open late due to online filing, which can cut down on the rush of Tax Day a little.

People looking to file their taxes with the IRS have until April 15 to do so. If an extension is filed, they have until October 15 to file taxes. So long as the envelope the taxes are sent in is marked for April 15, they are considered on time. It’s important to note that places other than post offices that accept mail may not be open later or have mail marked in time on Tax Day.

To help people schedule how they’ll spend Tax Day, the USPS has released a tool that tells people where post office hours have been extended for April 15. That tool can be found here.
