About 1 million Trek bicycles are being recalled following a slate of injuries due to issues with the brakes.
These bikes have a “quick release” lever on the front wheel that may interfere with the disk brakes. The recall affects 900,000 Trek bicycles in the US and 98,000 in Canada.
Three major accidents were reported, including a paralyzed rider and another who suffered facial injuries. The recall affects Trek bicycles from model years 2000 through 2015.
These have front disc brakes and a black or silver quick release lever on the front wheel hub that opens far enough to contact the disc brake.”
Those who call a Trek retailer to get their bikes fixed will get a $20 coupon redeemable by Dec. 31 toward any Bontrager merchandise.
