Recode claims that the social media website is planning to increase the character limit for Tweets to 10,000. This is the same as the service’s Direct Message character limit. The effort is being called “Beyond 140” internally.

The increased character limit on Twitter doesn’t yet have an official release date. The new character limit could also change from 10,000 before it’s released. The company is testing a system that only displays 140 characters in larger Tweets, but includes a note that there’s more to read, reports Recode.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Tweeted an image of text on Tuesday that said the company was interested in expanding its character limit. The message said that having larger Tweets would allow for more power and utility and would also make that text searchable, rather than it not being so when shared as an image.
