The popular real-time strategy (RTS) title was breached on Thursday, July 14 by a hacker who prefers to remain anonymous for the time being.

Plenty of personal information was stolen, including usernames, email addresses, IP addresses, Facebook profile data, and more.

The move was intended to show the vulnerability that even a game of Clash of Kings’ caliber has. This information could also be used to recognize big data patterns among its user base.

The term big data refers to trends that can be used to understand how humans act and interact online in large databases. A number of big data digital services have been targeted lately, creating problems for a number of businesses.

A recent survey examined that many of these businesses and services are concerned that hackers are ahead of them in cybersecurity. 69% of digital security executives have had insiders who use corruption of data to expose these weaknesses.

Clash of Kings consists of building large armies to battle for the crown of the Seven Kingdoms with friends and foes. The game has more than 3.7 million likes on Facebook.

The title is a reference to the second book in the A Song of Fire and Ice series, also known as a TV show called Game of Thrones.
