A new report claims that Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) is planning to release two new versions of the PS4 in September.

PS4, PlayStation 4, Sony, SNE StockThis report comes from The Wall Street Journal and cites people familiar with the matter. It claims that Sony will be releasing an updated version of the standard PlayStation 4 alongside an improved version next month. The standard version is said to be thinner than the current version of the PS4 on store shelves.

The thinner version of the PS4 that will possibly be released next month will be as powerful as the current version of the video game console. The report claims that the thinner PS4’s price will be reduced from the current price of $350 for the standard version. This price reduction is likely due to the updated version of the PlayStation 4 that may also be released in September.

The updated version of the PS4 that may be released in September doesn’t have an official name yet. However, fans have taken to calling it the PS4.5, PS4K or the PlayStation 4 Neo. The new version of the PlayStation 4 will likely be able to play games in 4K and support the company’s virtual reality headset, reports WSJ.

Images of what appear to be one of the new PS4 video game consoles coming out next month have been leaked online. The images show what appear to be the slimmer version of the standard PlayStation 4 for release in Europe. The device has a matte black finish and 500GB of storage. It showed up on an auction website before being removed.

SNE stock was up 1% as of Noon Monday.
