Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE:WMT) wants to deliver food straight to the customer’s fridge.

New Walmart Delivery Service Would Put Food Right in Your Fridge

Walmart is testing out a new service that will allow it to do just that. This service is part of an agreement with August Home, a provider security for smart homes, and delivery service Deliv.

This new delivery service from Walmart will allow customers to place orders online. Once this is done, employees will handle the shopping. After that, a Deliv driver picks up the goods and heads to the person’s home. If the person isn’t there, the delivery driver can use a one-time pass code to enter the home and unpack the goods.

Walmart notes that the service will alert customers when the Deliv driver enters their home. The security cameras from August Home will also send video feed to the person’s smartphone. This allows them to completely monitor the delivery without needing to be home for it.

This new delivery method is still in the early stages of testing. Walmart says that it is working with select August Home customers that have agreed to take part in the test. These customers live in Silicone Valley.

“These tests are a natural evolution of what Walmart is all about – an obsession in saving our customers not just money but also time,” Sloan Eddleston, VPof Walmart eCommerce Strategy & Business Operations, said in a blog post.

If the tests goes well, the Walmart is interested in expanding the service. It hopes that this may one day become a common way for its customers to order items online.

As of this writing, William White did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
