Apple Inc. Rumors and AAPL Stock News – iPod Sales on the Decline?

Here is today’s Apple (AAPL) stock news and rumors. As the heat wave keeps Wall Street sweating, AAPL shareholders can keep cool with news of strong sales for Mac computers, a redesigned MobileMe Calendar, and a new update of Mozilla’s Firefox browser for Macs:

AAPL’s Mac Sustains Strong Sales, iPod Declines: While Apple’s new iPad tablet is selling like hotcakes, it isn’t cutting into sales of the company’s Mac computer sales. According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, recently released NPD Group sales numbers show that the Mac is stronger than ever with sales up 37% year-on-year for the quarter as of May. Other analysts were predicting just 19% growth by the end of June. The sales should be promising to Apple shareholders that have been nervous that the success of the iPad would begin drawing consumers away from the rest of AAPL’s computer product line. Munster, whose report was published by Silicon Alley Insider, also concluded that though the iPod is set to ship between 9 and 10 million units by the end of June, the market for the multimedia device is soft. With the continued success of the iPhone, it’s no wonder that the little MP3 player that could is finally riding off into the sunset.

AAPL Redesigns MobileMe Calendar: Apple’s web-based suite of services will be getting a brand new version of its popular calendar in the very near future. AAPL announced this morning that a freshly redesigned version of MobileMe Calendar will be entering beta testing this summer, allowing current MobileMe subscribers to sign up for beta access at me.com/calendar.  Updates in the new MobileMe Calendar include full support for Apple’s iPod Touch, iPhone 4, iPad, and Mac computers, an overhauled web application, and a tool to create event invitations and log RSVPs. AAPL is no doubt hoping to compete with InterActiveCorp’s (IACI) website eVite with the invitation and RSVP tool included in the redesign. MobileMe subscriptions are still $99-per-year.

Firefox 4.0 for Mac Enters Public Beta: The Mozilla Corporation released an update for their web browser Firefox to Mac users yesterday, bringing with it updated support for HTML 5 and increased protection against browser crashes. This marks Firefox 4.0’s first public beta on AAPL Macs as well as the latest movement in Mozilla’s effort to outdo Apple’s own Safari browser.
