Apple RumorsHere are your Apple rumors and news items for Monday:

Steve Jobs to Rock iPhone 5 Press Event: Tuesday’s unveiling of the rumored-but-we-all-know-it’s-happening iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S will be the first big new-product reveal for Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) with Tim Cook as the company’s chief executive. While hardly Tim Cook’s first rodeo — he oversaw the release of marquee Apple products, including the iPad 2 — it’s a momentous occasion for the company following Steve Jobs’ departure as CEO. According to a Monday report at Reuters though, Cook won’t be all on his lonesome to introduce the new device. Steve Jobs is “expected to make an appearance” to usher in the new devices. Channing Smith of Capital Advisors Growth Fund told Reuters that although Jobs’ participation in the event isn’t critical to the company, “Investors would like to see Steve Jobs to confirm that he is still involved.” Apple zealots and paranoid investors, take note: It’s time to move on.

German Telecom Jumps the iPhone 4S Gun: The smaller, cheaper model of the iPhone 4 expected to debut at Tuesday’s Apple event is one of the worst-kept secrets in the entire mobile industry. The iPhone 4S’ latest early appearance comes courtesy of Vodafone (NASDAQ:VOD). The German telecom already is listing the device in its product database, according to a Monday report at 9 to 5 Mac. Interestingly, the listing confirms that the new model will come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions, as rumored last Friday. Also interesting is that the product listing now includes an 8GB version of the original iPhone 4, a storage size not available in current models.

Major Security Flaw in HTC Android Phones: The last thing HTC needs now that its phones are gaining popularity with U.S. consumers is a privacy scandal. Oh well. A Monday report at Android Police (via Edge Magazine) said a recent software update released by HTC leaves many of the company’s Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android phones vulnerable to security breaches. Because of the flaw, apps now can access users’ personal data, including their location, email addresses, contact lists and text messages. In a follow-up report at Venture Beat, an HTC representative said the company is working fast to fix the problem.
