“As the summer reading season gets into full swing, we’re excited to reveal our second annual Most Well-Read Cities list,” Chris Schluep, senior editor of books said in a press release. “It’s great to see that we are truly a nation of readers, with representation on this list from every region of the country.”

To determine the ranking, Amazon compiled data of all book, magazine and newspaper sales in both print and Kindle format since June 1, 2011, from cities with more than 100,000 residents.

Amazon also took a look at what people are reading. It found that people in Berkeley, Calif., order the most travel books, and Alexandria, Va., abounds with readers who fancy romance novels.

Here’s a gander at the cities that boasted the most readers.

  1. Alexandria, Va.
  2. Cambridge, Mass.
  3. Berkeley, Calif.
  4. Ann Arbor, Mich.
  5. Boulder, Colo.
  6. Miami
