Windows 8 Has Many Users Scratching Heads

It’s one of the most dreaded events in any computer user’s life. Whether it’s at work or home, having to learn a new operating system can fill even an experienced user with dread.

And that’s where Windows 8 comes in. The new OS from Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is just days away from hitting the market, and the reviews are coming in confused. With the new Windows marking such a radical change from Windows 7, early users are finding it difficult to make the switch.

The new operating system is designed to tie together the PC and table experiences. However, several reports say users who received early copies of Windows 8 are finding the experience difficult. It’s possible that Microsoft, in trying to bring its PC and mobile computing systems, together has made it harder for users to adapt to either. Or it could simply be the result of something new that will soon become familiar.

Microsoft is betting that Windows 8 can make strong gains for the company as it applies the new operating system to its desktop machines, mobile phones and its new Surface tablet. The tablet industry, in particular, is competitive, with Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), Best Buy (NYSE:BBY) and others rolling out new tablets already and/or new ones in the near future.
