All current and new owners of Amazon’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Kindle Fire will get a digital bonus this week.
Each owner will receive 500 Amazon Coins — equivalent to $5 — in their Amazon accounts to celebrate the launch of the digital currency, CNet reports.
The new digital coins — which can only be used in the Amazon Appstore — launch this week and can be used to purchase apps, games and in-app items for the Kindle Fire. Users will find the credit in their accounts this week.
Amazon announced the creation of the digital currency back in February
. Users can purchase the coins in small or large lots. However, if they buy in amounts greater than $50 — 5,000 coins — they will receive a 10% discount on the price of the coins.
“Today we are giving Kindle Fire owners $5 worth of coins to spend on new apps and games, or to purchase in-app items, such as recipes in iCookbook, song collections in SongPop or mighty falcon bundles in Angry Birds Star Wars,” said Mike George, Amazon’s VP of apps and games.
