Yahoo Discontinues Email Classic Service

Yahoo YHOOJust in case you’re sitting at your desk waiting for your favorite device to deliver your Yahoo (YHOO) emails, just be sure you’re using the right email version: as of this morning Yahoo discontinued its Yahoo Mail Classic.

Yahoo mail users were given fair warning about the need to upgrade to the new Yahoo Mail service, as the company actually rolled out much of its new version of mail last year, providing users plenty of time to move to the new service.

Users will now be required to change immediately, and change that includes accepting its Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, which now includes “automated content scanning and analyzing of yur (users’) communications content.”

Yahoo’s policy essentially results in their ability to use your email content as a guide to the ads you’ll see as part of your online experience; it’s much the same strategy as Google (GOOG) employs through its Gmail services.

Yahoo users can opt out of the Ad Interest Manager by manipulating their settings, however Yahoo still retains the right to scan emails to help determine future advertisement patterns.

If you are totally unhappy with the new service and its terms and conditions of course, you can either switch to another service, or simply download email using IMAP.
