Apple Inc. (AAPL) finally gave consumers what they have been asking for: its first entry into the smartwatch market.

Now, it is time to see if Cupertino made the right decision.

It was easy to beat up Apple when the company appeared to be slacking off, declining to launch a smartwatch while other companies got in on the action. Those days are in the past, however, with the Apple Watch set to make its way to market next year.

As exciting as this may be, there are a few reasons why the same consumers asking for the watch may pass it over for the time being.

Is it Priced to Sell?

 

There are plenty of people who feel that $349 isn’t exactly a bargain for a smartwatch compared to some of the competition. Even with all the features that the Apple Watch is reportedly packing, $349 is a lot to pay for a smartwatch.

Apple doesn’t price any product without doing its homework, though, so there is reason to believe it knows that $349 could be a winner.

The Cool Factor May Wear Off

There is no denying that the first people to wear an Apple Watch are sure to attract a lot of attention. The same held true when the iPhone first made its way to market. Soon enough, however, the cool factor wears off.

At that point, the Apple Watch will have to sink or swim on its own merits.

You aren’t a Fan of the iPhone

You may be loving everything about the Apple Watch, but unless you have an iPhone, buying an Apple Watch will only be a big waste of money. This device is only going to do you good if you have an iPhone strapped to you.

Did Apple make a mistake by making its watch so dependent on the iPhone?

For now, we can talk about all the potential reasons to pass on the Apple Watch as well as the benefits of buying. It won’t be until the device is available to consumers that we get a true feel for its level of success or failure.
