Microsoft (MSFT) Continues to Float in the Cloud

When it comes to cloud computing, Microsoft (MSFT) is no slouch. In fact, the company, led by Satya Nadella, continues to bury more time, money and resources into this part of its business.

Vibhor Kapoor, director of product marketing for Microsoft Azure, recently discussed MSFT’s cloud strategy, including the way it brings benefits to many groups, ranging from developers to IT professionals to business decision makers:

Introducing New Services

With IBC 2014 coming up later this week, Microsoft figured now was as good a time as ever to announce a variety of new services, all of which are going to change the way companies do business in the cloud:

  • Live Streaming
  • Content Protection
  • Indexer

These updates will be beneficial on many levels. For instance, “Content Protection,” according to Kapoor, will do the following:

“Enable customers to protect and monetize premium video content, we’ve introduced a Content Protection offering in preview that features both static and dynamic encryption with a range of industry-standard encryption options, including PlayReady DRM and Clearkey AES 128-bit encryption.”

Make no bones about it, Microsoft is looking to become the top provider of cloud services to companies throughout the world. It started slow and is now beginning to pick up steam, launching new services, such as those above, while doing its best to focus on the wants and needs of all types of enterprise professionals, not just one group.

MSFT’s biggest challenges moving forward will be to educate customers on the benefits of the cloud, while also fighting off the many competitors that are looking to gain the same momentum.

Do you believe Microsoft will eventually establish itself as the No. 1 player in this space?
